Our Origin Story
How This All Started…
Some time ago, I got a text from an ex-coworker out of the blue. He knew that I had a background in computers, and wanted to know whether I developed websites. Needless to say, as someone with a less than fulfilling day job, I was intrigued. I'd never built a website before in my life, but I seized the opportunity and said, "Yes!" From there, it was off to the races.
The experience was an eye-opener. I got to see firsthand just how convoluted and impenetrable building a site could be. For the average person not certified as a computer nerd, it was sure to be even less comprehensible. Nonetheless, I pressed forward, and sometime later, the client's new site launched.
Not long afterwards, I got a job working as a tester for a real website design agency. It was my job to find all the little ways their perfectly crafted, polished sites failed to work as designed. It was detailed, monotonous work, but it gave me something very valuable: a look at how a real company built their own sites. Needless to say, as someone with my own entrepreneurial ambitions, I was intrigued.
I knew, from talking with entrepreneurs, that it’s tough for up-and-coming businessmen to build an effective online presence. Knowing the business principles is one thing, but there’s a reason why large companies pay top dollar for elite developers to implement them. A busy entrepreneur who already has to worry about creating product, financing his venture, and marketing to customers, doesn’t need to deal with the minutiae of coding a website, setting up an e-commerce shop, building snazzy emails, etc. etc. etc. On the other hand, when your choices are to do it yourself, or pay through the nose to have a massive agency do it for you, which one are you going to pick?
Knowing the answer, I set out to give new entrepreneurs a third option: an agency that would create an online presence specifically built for business, at a price that they could afford to pay. I now knew how professional sites worked. The next step was to learn what business owners truly needed from their sites.
I dove in. I delved into the depths of entrepreneurship forums, looking for gems to mine. I spoke to actual business owners, and asked them what they would’ve wanted from a service such as mine, if it existed. I took meticulous notes on everything I found, because I knew that this would make the difference between being truly valuable to growing startups, and being yet another hawker of pretentious liberal arts fluff.
At long last, my work came to fruition. You are reading the results.
